You do not need a big space to start your Herb garden, most Plants and Herbs
grow very well in pots and containers and an advantage of growing like this is
that you can move the pots around and experiment with different positions to get
more or less sunlight etc etc.
My first Herb garden was on my bedroom window sill and they were all in small
pots, Herbs will grow very well indoors so long as they have enough light. If
you are lucky enough to have a garden then of course you can plant them directly
in the ground. First choose a site to have your garden then choose what sort of
Plants you would like to start off with. What are you going to use your Plants
and Herbs for? Healing, magic or both? Are there certain Plants that you are
attracted to, whether it be because of their appearance or smell or whatever?
You can buy Plants and Herbs that are already established, they don't cost a
lot of money and in supermarkets in the vegetable section you can buy the main
Herbs such as Parsley, Basil. Dill etc for less money than they'd cost from a
garden centre. Seeds are cheaper but you will need patience while they sprout
and grow. Maybe half and half would be a good idea. Then of course you can
collect your own Seeds from your Plants when they have flowered and use them to
re-plant again in the spring.
Caring for your Herbs and Plants needn't be daunting either, they all need light
and water and feeding with a fertiliser now and again. Experiment with your
garden, trial and error is the best way to learn. You will soon know if a Plant
isn't happy, it'll show you. But all you do is try something different.
I will disscuss harvesting and storing Herbs at a later date and if anyone has
any questions please ask away
