Reflexology depends on the theory that there are reflexes in your feet, ears,
and hands that connect to any organ in the body to promote healing or relieve
tension. Reflexology is often compared to acupressure, but the difference is
simply that the belief of reflexology may for example say that massaging your
big toe may help with irritation with the head, whereas acupressure is generally
practiced directly on the area of question.
A session with a reflexologist will usually be a soothing and comforting
experience, leaving you feeling refreshed, relaxed, or energized. It's all a
matter of the bodily issues that were pinpointed and corrected during the
session. You may feel emotional imbalances, temperature changes, and tingling
during the session as the reflexologist applies pressure to your congested areas
to heal the ailment. These are common sensations and there is nothing to fear.
Of course ask your reflexologist any questions you may have prior to the
session. Ask about what you may feel, what benefits can come of having
reflexology performed, and how long it should take before you will notice change
in your ailments.
Of course one does not have to schedule a session with a reflexologist to enjoy
the benefits, as reflexology can be self performed. The easiest way to learn
reflexology is to purchase a pair of socks or gloves with the reflexology map on
it, designating on the hands and feet where the connections are to the rest of
your body and organs. These are generally inexpensive, and can give you the
comfort of knowing that you can seek relief without having to read 50 books to
obtain an understanding of how it is to be performed.
