Why to practice Yoga: The question is more so why Shouldn't you practice Yoga? The benefits are amazing, and Yoga can contribute something positive to everyone.
Whether it be a psychological, physical, mental, or spiritual ailment, or even just a quest to improve your life - Yoga has something to offer you.

How do I get started?
The best way to get started is to go to the store. You will need a Yoga Mat. You can live without it, but you're subject to carpet burn or slipping on a regular floor. If you have something at home that could serve as a good Yoga mat, by all means use it.
Next you'll need to buy a video on Yoga. Try a rental store such as Blockbuster, or a local pawn shop for the cheap way out.

Do I HAVE to buy a video? Nope. But most people just can't learn from the exercises posted online. The diagrams and descriptions don't have enough detail, and the best way to learn is to see someone else in front of you. Have them speaking to you, and correcting potential mistakes.
And if you're brave, you can look into joining a local Yoga class. Your instructor will personally correct your mistakes, teach you alternatives to moves and postures, and you can socialize with others who are taking the class as well to learn from their experiences with Yoga.
